Abstract

Rubber compsns. based on NR, IR, SBR, BR, EPDM, NBR or silicone rubber contg. 10-150 pts. ppted. silica, alone or in combination with 0-100 pts. carbon black, as reinforcing filler and 5-50 pts. silicon carbide, said or quartz particles of size >0.01 mm (0.01-0.k mm), pretreated with a slinae monomer of formula R1-Si(OR)3, (in which R1 is a reactive amino, mercapto, epoxy or vinyl gp. and R is a hydrolysable alkoxy gp., connected to the Si atom through short alkyl chains, with (c) other usual vulcanising additives. Compsns. are used in tyre treads and shoe soleS. Adhesion to wet and dry road or ice surfaces is improved and is comparable to that of spiked tyres. The coarse particles are retained in the compsns. under mechanical and thermal stresses.
