Abstract

The engine (3) has an inlet manifold (7) which encloses the exhaust manifold (12). The fuel-air mixture in the inlet duct (1) thus flows over the hot surfaces of the exhaust manifold and is completely gasified before entering the inlet ports (4). This ensures complete combustion of the fuel with a reduction in consumption and in pollution due to the presence of unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases. To assist cold starting there are electric heating elements (8, 9) in the inlet filter (2) and inlet duct (1) respectively. A relief valve (10) is provided to reduce the danger of explosion due to pre-ignition in the duct (1).
