Abstract

A woven fabric is formed using main warp yarns of which half are controlled by an upper heald bar and half by a lower heald bar, and a layer of straight core warp yarns. As the upper and lower heald bars reciprocate vertically to open and close the shed during picking and beating up of the weft they are also moved laterally so that the main warp yarns are entwined around the core warp yarns. The method is used particularly for weaving tape used as reinforcement. The fabric has a reduced surface area produced by the yarns but is strong and stable.
