Abstract

Azo dyes derived from 2,6-diaminopyridine, have the formula:- where n is 2-4, D is the residue of a diazo cpd., R is H, alkyl, methylphenyl or phenyl, X is H, carbamoyl or cyano, Z is alkylene, optionally interrupted by O, S or substd. imino, or cycloalkylene, aralkylene or arylene. The groups A are independently H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, phenyl or acyl, which may optionally be substd., or A can form a 5-7 heterocycle with the N atom. The dyes may also be in salt form. The yellow to red dyes are used for colouring natural or synthetic polyamides. The shades are brilliant, very fast and a very good tinctorial yield is obtained in dyeing.
