Abstract

A procedure for colouring the recessed regions of an embossed or profiled surface by (a) applying an adhesive paint to the overall surface, (b) drying the paint, (c) treating the painted surface with a reagent which tends to swell and lift the paint, (d) removing the paint from the uppermost surfaces by suitable washing or buffing, and (e) re-drying the paint left in the recessed regions. Esp. for painting parts of the surfaces of continuous strip or tape profiles, or thick coatings thereon, made of dense or foamed synthetic materials, such as PVC. The technique may be applied to one or both faces of a profile. Provides more accurate and repeatale generation of selectively painted zones than procedures for applying paint only to selected regions of the surface either before or after embossing.
