Abstract

The cleaned polymer surface is coated with >=1 layers of a halogenated polyolefin, pref. a chlorinated polyolefin of MW 5,000-15,000 in soln. in an org. solvent, and coating of the desired colour is then applied, pref. in the form of a pigmented polyurethane in an org. solvent or a mixt. thereof with a polyester or a polyether. This enables the final props. of the colour layer to be varied, e.g., high flexibility for thin sheets of substrates, hardness and low flexibility where high rub-resistance is required. Adhesion between the various layers is good and the process is esp. applicable to the mfr. of rubber components used in the car industry.
