Abstract

The lamp comprises a housing with a base to which transparent or translucent sidewalls are attached, these in turn being capped by an opaque top dome. The bulb (4) is mounted horizontally inside the dome (3), together with a reflector (5) above it, thus leaving the part of the housing below the dome completely empty. The reflector can be arranged to suppor the bulb accessories, and the lower edges of dome and reflector can be on the same level. The lamp can be of 80 watts or more, the sidewalls being fully transparent. The design allows mercury-vapour or sodium bulbs to be used in a conventional street lamp as for gas, without causing dazzle.
