Abstract

A solid particles feeding device and process are claimed for distributing a continuous supply of particles into a selected space such as the processing chamber of a chemical reactor. Particles are supplied from a hopper having a bottom outlet tube discharging towards a deflector plate spaced slightly from the delivery end of the outlet tube, a supply of pressurised gas being piped to the clearance between outlet tube and deflector so that delivered particles are entrained into a gas stream dispersing into the selected space. Pref. the dispersing gas stream has to pass into the selected space via baffle plates of a direction-changing ring set around the deflector plate. Pref. the outlet tube is of circular cross-section with an area of bore less than the area of a round, coaxial deflector plate. The feeder is compact, easily fitted to existing vessels and can be readily adjusted to give a required distribution pattern.
