Abstract

Metal powder is recovered from grinding swarf by several washing operations in a solvent for the lubricant, followed by filtration and heating in absence of air to 315-535 degrees C. After cooling the metal particles are separated from the grinding or abrasive particles. This is an inexpensive process for the recovery of metal powder. The 75 wt. % of valuable high-alloy steel contained in the swarf can be recovered economically and used for powder metallurgy.
