Abstract

The panel covers a hatchway enclosed by a rectangular frame, and comprises an elastic membrane between a fixed component and a housing consisting of two parts pivoting together. The housing is driven by a motor along parallel guides and via pinions meshing with racks and the drive from the motor is non-reversing, so that the panel automatically locks in position when the motor is switched off. The seal is formed by the housing automatically holding the membrane taut, and also by a crankshaft in the housing wih a protrusion which strikes a stop on each rack on reaching the closed position. This causes the shaft to rotate and actuate cams pressing down a flexible component surrounding the hatchway onto the membrane.
