Abstract

1303096 Moving hatch covers HATCHWAY DYNAMICS Ltd 17 Sept 1971 [23 Sept 1970] 45395/70 Heading B7S [Also in Division E2] A pair of hatch covers 14, 15 are moved in unison towards and away from each other through a looped cable or chain 24 passing over guides 25, 26 at the ends of the hatchway. One cover 15 has a pair of pinions 20 driven by a motor or motors carried by the cover and engaging corresponding racks or the sides of the hatch coaming 10; the cover 15 actuates its opposite cover 14 through the cable 24. Alternately both of the covers may be moved by driving one of the cable pulleys 25 or 26 by a motor. Covers 14, 15 may completely close the hatchway but are preferably the inner ones of a train of covers 12-18 which have rollers 18 running along the coaming. When the hatchway or line of hatchways is open the covers are stowed in an upright position, Fig. 2 (not shown).
