Abstract

Prodn. of a blackboard chalk on the basis of calcium carbonate with addition of a liquid fatty acid is improved in that ricinoleic acid and triethanolamine are used as starting materials for the corresp. soap. Ground natural chalk is mixed with talc and bentonite; a preserving agent, a thickening agent and pigments are added; and then ricinoleic acid and triethanolamine are admixed. The triethonolamine ricinoleate soap acts asn an emulsifier and dispersing agent when the board is wiped with a moistened sponge so that 'ghost lines' (the remaining visible traces of the chalk) are removed. The 'hand' of the chalk is good; smearing is suppressed.
