Abstract

Process for alkylating aromatic hydrocarbons with an olefin comprises (a) contacting a first portion of olefin with the hydrocarbon and a HF alkylation catalyst, (b) removing the hydrocarbons and catalyst from the first reaction zone and sepg. the hydrocarbons from the catalyst and recycling the catalyst to the first reaction zone, (c) contacting a second portion of the olefin with the first hydrocarbon effluent stream and a second HF catalyst in a second alkylation zone (d) removing the hydrocarbons and catalyst, recycling the catalyst to the second alkylation zone, and recovering the alkylated prod. from the second hydrocarbon effluent zone.
