Abstract

An indicator for the oil level of a reservoir for the braking and hydropneumatic suspension systems uses a float as a level detector. Liquid surface movements due to acceleration, braking and vibration are prevented from giving false alarm signals. A reservoir (4) attached to a motor vehicle (5) contains a liquid (1) with a level (n). An indicator (D) comprises a tubular element (6) with a base (9) and mounted with axis (7) vertical when the vehicle has no horizontal inclination. Liquid enters the element via a passage (C) to operate a float (3) which is connected to a shaft (8) providing an indicator signal when the liquid falls to or below a minimum operating level (a). The passage has a lower limit (b) a safe distance (g) below the minimum level (a).
