Abstract

The glass fibres are treated with a polar org. solvent (I) miscible with water and contg. an org. dye insol. in water, after which (I) is neutralised and extd. in situ. leaving the insol. dye as a thin coating on the fbres, the coating is then fixed. The fabric can be treated with a cationic matl. prior to dyeing with (I) which can be (a) a dialkyl sulphoxide used alone or with monoethanolamine, (b) a dialkyl amide, e.g. dimethylformamide, or (c) the monomethyl ether of ethylene glycol. Fixing is achieved by a final, insol, transparent layer. The coating has excellent adhesion and resistance to light and washing.
