Abstract

The parent patent deals with the continuous extn. of sludge from the surface of a rectangular flotation tank by means of a moving bridge with a horizontal drum fitted with suitable blades. In addition the sludge is simultaneously extracted from points at the bottom of the tank by means of a suction arm. The bridge moves on four wheels. A drum consists of an axle carrying two circular end-plates which have necks which support the assembly and rest on pulleys mounted on the bridge. The drum is fitted with blades and acts on the sludge at the surface. The bridge includes two suction arms, the object of the addition, which consists of tubes in the form of an inverted "T" with the horizontal portion, at the base of the tank. The sludge can be drawn up through holes by pumps and pumped along pipe to the receiving device for the surface sludge. The sludge can be pumped while the bridge is moving in both directions; the surface and the base sludges can be extracted simultaneously so that the efficiency of the appts. described in the parent patent is thus improved.
