Abstract

Prodn. of mudguards by extruding a thermoplastic web which is passed continuously through guides which curve the profile first laterally and then longitudinally before quenching the matl. in a liq, bath. The output profile is automatically drilled or pierced and cut to produce individual guards ready for fitting. Esp. used for mfr. of motorcycle mudguards. Produces mudguards of metallic appearance which are lightweight and corrosion resistant. The extrudate should be lined with, or enclose, a metallic sheet or foil sufficiently malleable to tolerate the subsequent forming treatments, pref. aluminium. The thermoplastic matl. should be translucent or transparent, opt. coloured, and pref. of cellulose aceto-butyrate.
