Abstract

The head (10) is driven by a continually rotating shaft (1) through a slip clutch (5, 8) the driven member (8) of which has a radial projection (12) sweeping over the abutments (18) which are normally in the retracted position. Each abutment is movable by energisation of a respective magnet (16) into the path of the projection and so stop the rotation of the head in the selected position for printing of a particular character. The head is movable axially relative to the driven clutch member for selection of one of several rows of characters and the shaft and clutch assembly is tiltable for effecting the print.
