Abstract

Automatic salting device for cheeses operates on both end faces and around the peripheral edges. It comprises a first conveyor belt on which the cheeses are carried past a salt jet and are salted on one face. They are then tipped on to a second conveyor belt on which they are salted on the second face. This is followed by a sloping, static conveyor down which the cheeses roll to become salted on their peripheral portions. A positioning device places the cheeses flat on a third conveyor which leads to a series of small conveyor rollers. A device counts the cheeses and evacuates them in rows on trays, which arrive from below. The cheeses are salted without the necessity of any manual intervention, and are counted and automatically arranged in rows without slowing down the output conveyor by means of a pneumatic piston and pusher plate.
