Abstract

Each end of a section (1a, 1b) is bevelled, one inclined inwards, the other outwards to provide a neat joint. A number of blocks (2) are spaced around the upper end of a mast section, each having a base portion (2) welded to the inside wall. This portion is extended upwards (2') on the block inner face to form a location for another block (3) welded inside the lower end of the upper section, the mating faces being at an angle. Bolts (4) are used to tighten inner and outer blocks together these having their heads locating in counterbores (5) to fit level with the surface of the mast.
