Abstract

A multiply non-woven fibrous fibrous fabric is formed by depositing long fibres from e.g. a chute onto a screen (e.g. metal mesh) beneath which a suction is applied, and then depositing from a feed device short fibres on top of the long fibres whereby the short fibres partially intermingle with the long fibres. Pref. a final layer of long fibres is deposited from a second chute onto the short fibres to produce a three ply-fabric which may then be sprayed with adhesive and dried. The fabric may be used for disposable sanitary articles. The fabric is cheap to produce. The short fibres provide good absorption and the long fibres on the surface of the fabric provide good touch characteristics.
