Abstract

The mechanism fits on the side frames (4) of the chair and incorporates hydraulic rams (12) extending downwards so as to bear against the floor (21) and thus raise the frames to a convenient height for the occupant to work at a table, kitchen stove etc. The rams can actuate extending frames with bars (21) resting flat on the ground, and the rams can be supplied by a hand pump and connected in series so that they extend and retract for an equal amount. As fluid is delivered against one face of one ram piston, the other face forces fluid out of the ram to the other ram, which in turn returns fluid to the reservoir or to the pump.
