Abstract

Process for mfg. a refractory cellular concrete, the novelty being the mixt. of conventional components of a refractory concrete with particles of a material which disappears almost completely at max. temp. 400 degrees C during the thermal treatment of the concrete after setting. The particles are pref. beads, esp. of expanded polystyrene (FP) with max. size 6 mm and esp. with a size of 1 mm, the FP being max. 60% of the total vol. of the dry components. The resulting concrete is pref. used in a device between an external envelope and an internal working layer, esp. where the latter is made of the same constituents but excluding the FP. Provides high thermal insulation but is impermeable to hot gases or molten masses.
