Abstract

Equipment for bending pipe having a thermplastic covering, where the bending tool incorporates heaters for softening the thermoplastic cover as the bend progresses. The equipment may be used generally but esp. for bending metal oil pipe lines etc. coated with epoxy resin. The softening of hard thermoplastic coatings avoids causing cracking or crazing which would expose the base pipe or reduce resistance to chemical penetration or forst damage. Local heating is suitable for use when laying curved pipe in the field.
