Abstract

A process for conditioning a gas is claimed in which a continuous flow of the gas is treated with a fluid additive which is injected in a constant proportion to the flow rate of the gas. The additive is injected in discrete doses of fixed vol. at a frequency varying with the flow rate of the gas, and the gas under pressure is used as working fluid to actuate a means of injecting the additive, e.g. a gas-operated diaphragm pump. The process is used for injecting a fluid additive into a flow of gas, esp. injecting vapourised naphtha and water into town gas mains in order to preserve the elasticity of and seal rubber pipe joints and to settle dust and is partic suitable for flammable and explosive gases since the injection device is gas-operated to eliminate the possible hazard of elastic parking. The new process is economical and completely safe.
