Abstract

The deflector (1) is made from a single steel pressing in the form of a U-section (2). One end of the U-section is closed by a curved wall (10). At the other end of the U-section the sides (3, 4) are extended to form symmetrical triangular lugs (5, 6) with a hole (8, 9). The open end of the U-section is placed over the end of the exhaust pipe and secured by a bolt which passes through the holes. The curved end wall (10) then deflects the exhaust gases downwards. The deflection protects the bumpers and coachwork from attack by the exhaust gases. It also reduces discomfort to pedestrians and drivers of following vehicles.
