Abstract

A supermarket trolley with a basket (2) supported on struts above a horizontal chassis (1) mounted on four castor wheels (3 to 6) so that it will nest into others when its end panel is swung up, has a handle (25) fixed to the basket for normal pushing, and another handle (15) at the opposite rear corner for steering. The latter handle is attached to a vertical spindle (11) connected to the castor wheel (6) in the corresponding corner, for this steering action. This spindle moves inside a bracket under the handle and another above the castor wheel, so that it can be raised and lowered. The handle (15) is attached to a lever (21) carrying a trigger lever (19) so that by rotating it, the spindle is held down, a and its bottom edge is forced onto the castor wheel, acting as a brake.
