Abstract

In a process of making antireflecting glass in which the glass is passed through a number of washes with detergent followed by drying, after being sprayed with HF on one or both faces of the glass sheet in a special chamber, 2-14% of the detergent wash solution comprises oxidising acids of the sulphuric, nitric, perchloric or similar type, so that the oxidising acid passes into the same floro chambers as the HF, prior to spraying with the HF and such that the HF contains a convenient percentage of oxidising acid. The non-reflecting surface required is obtained without loss of transparency as occurred in prior art, while the number of acid washes is reduced to a minimum.
