Abstract

The sprinkler head (2, 7) is screwed into the system (1). Around the nozzle end (11) of the sprinkler is a spring (4), rated at a predetermined pressure, its other end (12) fixed to a support block (6). A disc (3) blocks the sprinkler nozzle, being held in place by a liquid filled glass ampoule (5, 8), whose pointed end (9) is seated on soft rubber (10) in the support block. At normal temperature, spring pressure keeps the assembly sealed. Heat from a fire will open the sprinkler head by causing either the glass ampoule to break, or a pressure rise in the system to overcome the spring and release the disc.
