Abstract

Laminated hollow vessels, esp. packing tubes for dispensing pastes, are produced from continuous equally wide lengths of film matl. - some of the lengths being of composite matl. such as an aluminium foil bonded to a copolymer film, while others carry printed legends intended to be visible through a transparent outer layer - which run from supply reels parallel to each other, to form a stack with their long edges offset to each other in equal lateral steps, and are welded in the overlapping zones. The run is then sheared into lengths which are rolled to form tubes, the long axes of which conform to those of the constituent stacks of film, whilst their circumferences are less than the widths of the films and foils, and finally welded. No spring-back occurs when the tubes are folded over. Tubes have the appearance of metal without its susceptibility to cracking and attack by aggressive contents.
