Abstract

Magnet friction coupling or brake comprises, at least, one electro-magnet and an associated rotor both positioned coaxially relative to an inner section for friction contact by closing a magnetic flux circuit between the electromagnet and the rotor. At least part of the working surfaces of at least one friction member of the assembly is coated with a magnetic-flux damping material so as to enable the friction members to be rapidly released when the electro-magnet is deactivated. The coating material is specif. brass, such as brass plating. The usual magnetic field isolating component is expendable in this arrangement.
