994,515. Friction clutches. PINTSCH BAMAG A.G. May 10, 1962 [June 13, 1961], No. 17970/62. Headings F2C and F2E. In an electromagnetic friction clutch or brake having an armature 5 attracted by a stationary magnet 1 into engagement with a polepiece 3 fast on a driven shaft 2, the polepiece 3 has a number of slotted cut-outs 3b forming peripheral pole-shoes 3d supported by bridge portions 3c, the circumferential resilience of the pole-shoes absorbing stick-slip vibrations and suppressing noise resulting therefrom, such vibrations being additionally suppressed by mounting the armature 5 with circumferential play on pins 7a of a carrier 7, fast on a driving V-pulley 6, or, in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), forming the armature from a number of segments resiliently mounted, for axial play, by blade springs on the carrier. The blade springs additionally serve to retract the armature segments, on disengagement, overcoming residual magnetism, and the polepiece and/or armature may have friction linings.
