Abstract

The SECAM colour television system uses two sub carriers in phase with the line frequency. Separate quartz oscillators for the sub carriers overcome filtering problems when using the line frequency for sub-carrier generation. Two quartz crystal oscillators for the blue and red sub-carriers are connected through a switch operating at line frequency to a phase comparator and NOR gate which receives squared signals from a limiter. The NOR gate also receives pulses referenced to line frequency. A monostable generates a pulse which is applied to a modulated chrominance sub carrier generator to keep it in phase with the reference signal. The output is connected to the comparator and to a television signal coding circuit and the comparator output connects to the modulator through a time controlled switch.
