Abstract

The watch face has a digital display zone,e.g. with liquid crystal display elements, and a further zone incorporating one or more solar cells. The latter are connected for recharging a button-shaped battery from which the watch drive and display circuits are supplied. Preferably the current consumption of the watch is maxmum of 50 micro amps. with about 30 micro amps required for the oscillator and drive circuits and about 20 micro amps for the digital display, with the required capacity of the button-shaped battery defined by an equation in terms of its thereotical capacity without the photocells, the means annual hours of sunchine and the difference between the mean and the minimum monthly hours of sunshine.
