Abstract

The automatic device for the carburettor ensures that the engine can start in the cold state and it continues to supply an appropriate mixture until the engine has reached its steady running temperature. A bimetallic spiral is connected to the starting valve of the carburettor and this spiral is exposed to the heat of two series connected resistors with a positive coefficient of expansion. These resistors are connected to a plate whose other side radiates heat on the bimetallic actuator. The system has a switch with a negative coefficient of thermal expansion and this switch actuated by the engine temperature is used for short circuiting one of the resistors at a lower temperature. The resistors and the bimetallic actuator are held in a housing and the bimetallic spiral actuates the throttle by a crank.
