Abstract

The upper face of each block has two or more parallel ribs (1) along part of its length and the bottom has similar grooves (2) running the complete length. The core (3) can be hollow, solid or filled with insulating material. The ribs of one block are inserted into grooves of another block, the upper faces of each row being coated with mortar before another row or course is put into place. Concrete blocks can be coloured to give a decorative finish. Plaster blocks give a good smooth finish without the necessity of applying a finishing layer of plaster on internal walls. Their use also improves sound and heat insulation and the fire-resistant properties of a building. The width of the blocks can be varied, but the height is 12.8 cm and the length 67 cm.
