Abstract

The core construction is suited to the production of ring type reactors with an enclosed winding in the core centre. Typically the inner diameter of the core is half that of the outer. The laminations are rectangular, but with part of one long side cut away to give a resultant J-form. These laminations are threaded radially round the coil winding such that the long side of the J lies at the outer diameter of the core. The laminations are arranged with their short sides, which therefore lie at the inner diameter, alternately pointing left or right. Thus the iron content of the region near the outer diameter is twice that of the inner region, and a reasonably cylindrical magnet results. The short limb is typically slightly under half the length of the long side in order to produce a small air gap.
