Abstract

Sheet matls. of improved absorbency are made by air-laying of hydrophilic, fibrillated wood fibres contg. lignin and having an average length of at least 0.8 mm. (pref. 2 mm.) and an average dia. from 0.2-0.06 mm. to give a sheet of density 0.04-0.18 (pref. 0.08-0.15)g./cm3. Matls. are used for mfr. of hand towels, diapers, bed sheets, hospital clothing etc. Matl. is more absorbent than commercial matls. made from ligning-free wood fibres.
