Abstract
The generator consists of a vertical mast rigidly attached to the ship or a platform. A rotatable turret at the base of the mast carries five radial arms which support rotatable booms carrying the sails. The upper end of each sail is attached by a trapeze to a bearing at the top of the mast. A weather vane is mounted at the end of an arm which rotates in a fixed socket to drive a cam. As the sails rotate the cam drives a linkage which controls the angular attitude of the sails so that they present the maximum area when driven by the wind and the minimum area when travelling against the wind.
