Abstract

An extension (4) of the north facing half of a conventional sloping roof is closed by double glazed vertical wall (3) facing south, inside which is a large flap (8) which can be swung down parallel to the vertical wall or swung back parallel with the sloping extension. This flap is reflective on the side facing the double galzing, and when swung back, reflects sunlight passing through the double glazing onto a horizontal black body (10) forming the ceiling of the rooms (11) underneath. Thus heat from the sun stored in the ceiling can be circulated afterwards around the rooms below. This flap can be controlled by a photoelectric detector so that it prevents loss of heat when the lighting is below a given level.
