Abstract

The system allows a series of operations to be carried out on a workpiece, and incorporates a number of rows of moving frames which are indexed along one side of a rectangular track. Each row of them is indexed by its own thrust mechanism for a distance equal to the space between it and the next row atright angles to it, and the length of this space is equal to that of a moving frame. There can be four rows of frames along the sides of a rectangle. Two of the spaces can be at diagonally opposite corners of the rectangle. Thrust can be exerted by hydraulic or pneumatic rams, each acting on the first frame in the row. The frames can be in the form of flat trucks travelling along parallel rows of rollers and balls in a right-angle pattern at the corners.
