Abstract

A non-magnetic shaft (3) carries a rotor with peripheral slots (14) for bars (15) of a short circuited cage winding. On the middle part of the rotor is an even number of pairs of housings for magnets distributed around the shaft of the rotor so as to produce, near to the rotor periphery, a number of magnetic pole pairs of alternate polarity. The magnets in the rotor have their pole faces parallel to the symmetrical radial plane of their respective housings, so that the pole faces of the same number of two neighbouring magnets are turned towards each other. The side of each magnet housing, which is farthest from the rotor shaft, is separated from the rotor peripheral slots above the housing by a rotor zone which partially shunts two corresponding poles of the magnet at the moment of asynchronous starting.
