Abstract

The device allows an alarm to be actioned signalling the presence of leakage in equipment storing or transporting hydrocarbons and involves a film of electrically insulating material which is dissolved in the hydrocarbons and causes the contacting of two filiform electrodes thus closing an electrical alarm circuit when a leak of the product concerned reaches the detection sensor. The elasticity of the wire comprising the interior electrode promotes a drawing together with the other electrode when the film of insulator dissolves. The device is flexible with a diameter of several millimeters and a length suitable for wrapping around pipes, fitting under a reservoir etc.
