Abstract
The anchor secures its load to a seabed of light soil and comprises a hollow body (1) open at one face, surrounded by a skirt (2). There is an opening in the top of the body (4), whose periphery acts as the seat for a valve (8). The valve moves between an open and a shut position on a guide (14). The anchor preferably has eyelets etc. for engagement by the mooring line of a vessel, buoy, beacon etc., and the body can be cylindrical, with several valves round its centre line. a number of anchoring hollow bodies can be attached together by pivoting arms. When the anchor reaches the seabed, the valve tends to remain off its seat until pressure inside the body has been equalised with that outside, but after that any attempt to pull it free is counteracted by a very powerful suction effect.
