Abstract

In one application, the DC source (A) of this convertor is shunted by four large capacitors in series. These four form two pairs, each of which has its centre point connected to an output transformer (P1, P2). The other end of the transformer is connected to the mid-point of a resonant coil (L1, L2). The ends of the coil connect to thyristors which are joined to the capacitors to complete the circuit. The thyristors are tripped in succession creating a negative or positive sinewave flux in the output transformer. By conjunction this provides an AC output overcoming the frequency limitations of thyristors and the capacitor divider overcomes their sensitivity to over-voltage.
