Abstract

Parent patent described design of an accumulator casing comprising a narrow, deep open topped moulding closed by a long narrow lid from which the electrodes and their terminals were supported. The addn. describes casing of similar shape made by assembling a shallow dish and a cover which becomes one of the two major vertical faces when the casing is in its use position. The terminals are fitted through holes in the upper panel, the panel being an integral sidewall of the tray half of the body as originally prefabricated. The tray component has a peripheral flange for making a welded joint with the flat cover. The edge panels of the body other than two panels supporting the terminals are not flat but have a shallow 'V' or positively dihedral cross section to sustain the cell alignment if and when the major side panels of the casing are flexed. The body mouldings are made of polypropylene. Requires less expensive tools and less material drawndown to make the body components than the original design. Also easier to install the cell plates.
