Abstract

The shackle with remotely controllable release is particularly suitable for use when mooring boats to quays. The shackle consists of a closed ring (10), carrying a bent swinging arm (11). The sides of the shackle link are parallel to guide a sliding member (16) which is recessed to take the end of the swinging arm. The engagement is maintained by a spring (17) and disengagment is achieved by pulling on the withdrawal pin (14). Additional loops (18a, 18b) on the main shackle take the main load (F2), the other attachment being via the swinging link. When subject to the main load the engagement is firmly maintained, but a relatively light pull (F3) from a line run parallel to the main cable will release the shackle.
