Abstract

The apparatus for loading containers, especially with potatoes, comprises a conveyor belt (80) to a rotating hopper (10) containing a number of sectors, typically five, the goods to be loaded being the uppermost sector. After rotation, the goods are ejected through a side chute. The horizontal axis of rotation of the hopper drum is immediately above that of a counter-balance beam (30) which pivots on a knife edge (40, 42). The vanes of the rotating beam are locked intermittently by an abutment (50) which may be unlocked as a new phase of rotation is required. Actuation of the movement is by a hydraulic motor and a cam locking mechanism.
