Abstract

Penicillanic and cephalosporanic acid derivs. of formula (I)- (where A=-C(CH3)2-CH(COOH)- or CH2-CR=C(COOH)-; R=H, lower alkyl, acetoxymethyl, lower cycloalkyl, lower cycloalkylalkyl, lower alkenyl, lower cycloalkylalkenyl., or lower phenyl-alkenyl; R'=H or OH; R"=H or Cl) are prepd. by reacting a cpd. of formula (II) or a salt with a cpd. of formula (II), hydrolysing the product. (where R'"=Y=methoxy or ethoxy; Y'=H, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, ethoxy or phenyl; Y"=methyl or ethyl; Y'"=methyl, ethyl, phenyl, tolyl, ethylphenyl, anisyl, ethoxyphenyl, or biphenyl; Z=Cl, Br or -OCO-O-R'" or -OCO-OR'"; R""=alkyl, vinyl, benzyl, or phenyl or a gp. A=C or S) are antibiotics. Method is simpler and cheaper to carry out than known methods.
