Abstract

In a centripetal extruder, each of the opposing disc daces features >=1 array of surface ribs defining >1 series of concentric, partially spiral channels which positively pump matl. towards the extrusion axis. Used esp. for coating cables passing as cores through a coaxial passage through the extruder. Reduction of the matl. path area by the interrupted spiral ribs increases the back pressure available at the outlet die. Decompression zones permit devolatilisation if desired. Device is more efficient than a single screw Archimedean extruder.
